Rhino 5: License Manager Initialization Failed with Error -200 or -300

Problem

Rhino 5 displays a “License manager initialization failed” error, with code -200 or -300, and will not run.

Cause

Unknown.

Solution

  1. Uninstall the four Rhino 5 program components using the Windows Control Panel: Rhinoceros 5, Rhinoceros 5 (64-bit), Rhinoceros 5 Help Media, and Rhinoceros 5 Language Pack Installer.
  2. Run Windows Check for Updates to install all available Windows updates.
  3. Download and install the latest full version of Rhino 5 from rhino3d.com/download.

If the error persists after reinstalling, run Repair on Rhinoceros 5 (64-bit) in Programs and Features. One user reported that this corrected the error.
