Rhino 5: Error "_mcneel._zoo5"

Problem

Rhino 5 cannot run and shows an error message about “_mcneel._zoo5”. This happens the first time Rhino 5 runs after it is installed.

Cause

An unknown Windows problem has damaged the Rhino license file on your computer.

Solution

  1. Delete the Rhino license file on your computer, as described in Manually Removing a Rhino License.
  2. Start Rhino 5. A message about a missing license file appears.
  3. Choose one of these options:
    • If you have a Rhino 5 license key for this computer, click Enter a License and enter your license key.
    • If you use a LAN Zoo floating license server, select Use a Zoo and enter the LAN Zoo server name or IP address.
    • If you don’t have a Rhino 5 key, click Evaluate.
