SubDMatch

To be done for V9

Hybrid modeling made easy! Connect SubD edges and surface edges to get the best of both worlds: easy form exploration while respecting manufacturing constraints.

SubD to NURBS

For designers exploring form-finding while facing manufacturing requirements, SubDMatch bridges the gap between SubD and Surface modeling, allowing you to connect boundary edges of both geometry types. It includes smooth tangent control.

SubD to Curve

Take SubDs beyond the design exploration phase! Use SubDMatch to adapt a SubD boundary to a curve that is part of the design requirements. This is especially useful when matching openings to a circle, often part of the manufacturing constraints.

SubD to SubD

When concept modeling with SubDs, you often need to match boundary edges of different edge counts. This is now possible using SubDMatch . The cherry on the cake? You can match to tangency between SubDs!

Try It

  1. Download Rhino 8 Evaluation for Windows or Mac.
  2. Download and open the subdmatch.3dm model.
  3. Run the SubDMatch command.
  4. At the Select a chain of SubD boundary edges prompt , sub-object select the open boundary edge on the blue tube.
  5. Press Enter.
  6. At the Select a chain of boundary curves to match, sub-object select the adjacent open boundary edge on the red head tube.
  7. Press Enter.
  8. In the Command Prompt , select Match Tangents.
  9. Drag the tangent widget to adjust the match.
  10. Press Enter when done.
  11. Try it on your own! Experiment with your own models.
  12. Share comments and feedback on the Rhino Forum.
