Smooth Step

A common interpolation function defined on the interval [0, 1]. The SmoothStep function is a sigmoid, or S-shaped, cubic polynomial with horizontal tangents at both zero and one.
This is the lowest order function in the SmoothStep family, guaranteeing a relaxed overall transition rate at the cost of lower continuity at the limits.
