One UI: Both Platforms

For designers and educators who work across Windows and macOS, Rhino 9 brings a unified interface that looks and behaves the same on both platforms. Unlike the separate Windows and Mac interfaces of earlier Rhino versions, you learn it once and know it everywhere.

What it does:

Rhino 9 uses the same interface on Windows and macOS, with panels, layout, tools, and behavior consistent across both. To restore the classic arrangement, go to Window > Window Layouts > Classic (Windows) or Classic (Mac) at any time.

Why it’s useful:

Switch machines, collaborate across platforms, or teach mixed labs without translating between interfaces. Your muscle memory, and your instructions,carry over.

A Friendlier, Powerful Command Line

Best of both worlds: Compact layout and clickable options

For Rhino users who live in the command line, who have to choose between typing speed and visible, clickable options, the redesigned command line offers both at once. Unlike the old platform-specific command lines, it combines the compact Windows layout with familiar clickable controls inspired by the Rhino for Mac command line.

What it does:

The command line takes the space-saving horizontal layout from Windows and puts it at the top of the screen, then adds the Mac buttons, drop-downs, and toggles, restyled to match the rest of Rhino. Typed input works exactly as it always has.

Why it’s useful:

Newcomers can see and click their options instead of guessing what to type. Power users keep typing without slowing down. Nobody gives anything up to make room for the other.

Menus: Enriched with Icons

Commands in Menus are paired with icons in Rhino 9

For Rhino users who move between toolbars and menus, who have to relearn each command in two different forms, the updated menus offer one shared visual language. Unlike the old text-only menus, they pair every command with the icon it already has elsewhere in the interface.

Refreshed OSnap Panel Icons

For modelers who set OSnap constantly while drawing, who have to squint at small, similar-looking text labels, the redesigned Object Snap panel is legible at a glance. Advanced right-click behavior remains to quickly set a single OSnap. Unlike the previous text-only checkbox labels, each Object Snap is distinct and space-saving.

What it does:

The Object Snap panel has space-saving icons, drawn to be clearer and more distinguishable from each other.

Why it’s useful:

OSnaps get toggled dozens of times an hour. Finding the right one instantly, without stopping to read, keeps you in the model instead of in the panel
