Audit 3dm Files

An interactive tool showing the relative size of objects in your 3dm file. Troubleshooting made visual.

The Audit3dmFile command presents an interactive “tree map” visualization showing the relative size of objects in the file. Audit3dmFile allows you to see which objects (or data!) take up the most space on disk. Once identified, you can use the tree map (or the list) to select the object in Rhino.

Try It

  1. Download Rhino 8 Evaluation for Windows or Mac.
  2. Download and open the Audit3dmFile-Demo.3dm model.
  3. Run Audit3dmFile and press Enter.
  4. Select the Audit This File option in the prompt .
  5. Click on the largest rectangles in the Tree Map: those are the biggest objects in the file.
  6. Right-click one of the rectangles and select Zoom to object in Rhino.
  7. Result: the object is maximized in the Rhino viewport. You can inspect it or delete to troubleshoot the file.
  8. Try it on your own! Audit your “favorite” 3dm file.
  9. Share comments and feedback on the Rhino Forum.
