Model failing right before a deadline? Let’s fix it fast.
The quick answers below cover the problems that catch out the most people. Still stuck? Reach a human on the right.
Why does my Boolean operation fail or blow surfaces apart?
Booleans need clean, correctly intersecting geometry. Run Check and ShowEdges first: look for naked edges, bad objects, coincident or coplanar faces, and surfaces that only touch instead of fully passing through each other. If you’re working with open surfaces, use Dir to make sure the normals point the right way. Fix those, then try the Boolean again.
My fillet won't build, what can I do?
Fillets fail most often when the radius is too large for the adjacent geometry, on surfaces with poor continuity, or where edges are shorter than the radius you asked for. Try a smaller radius, fillet fewer edges at once, or rebuild the underlying surfaces first.
My surfaces look jagged, or the shading is wrong. What happened?
The geometry is usually fine. It’s the render mesh that’s coarse. Adjust the render mesh settings (or move the smoothing slider toward smooth) so curved surfaces display smoothly. This doesn’t change the actual NURBS surface. If the shading looks dark or inverted, check for flipped normals with Dir and run Check for bad objects.
Why isn't my object closed? How do I get a solid?
A closed solid has no naked edges. Use ShowEdges to highlight open boundaries, then Join matching edges, use Cap to close planar holes, or rebuild the gaps. Once every edge is joined, the object reports as a closed polysurface (confirm with What or the Properties panel).
My Rhino file suddenly became huge. How do I shrink it?
Saved render meshes, embedded textures, unused blocks and materials, and history are the usual culprits. Run Purge to remove unused definitions, and use SaveSmall to write the file without render meshes.
