Manually Removing a Rhino License

Warning
Do this only as a last resort. Removing your license manually leaves it assigned in McNeel’s records, and you will need to contact support to use it on another device.

Windows

Note
By default, the ProgramData and AppData folders are hidden. To get to them, either turn on hidden files and folders in Folder Options, or type %ProgramData% or %AppData% in the File Explorer address bar.
  1. Log in to the workstation as the Administrator or as a user with administrative rights.
  2. Open File Explorer.
  3. Paste one of these paths into the address bar:
    • Rhino 6 and later: C:\ProgramData\McNeel\Rhinoceros\6.0\License Manager\Licenses
    • Rhino 5: C:\ProgramData\McNeel\Rhinoceros\5.0\License Manager\Licenses
  4. Delete the following file, if it exists:
    • Rhino 8: 868c63f5-3760-4a45-8600-5399cc57b47c.lic
    • Rhino 7: 59ff75c9-9c71-4ef8-a290-6b590f3fc63a.lic
    • Rhino 6: 55500d41-3a41-4474-99b3-684032a4f4df.lic
    • Rhino 5: 60515f84-8f7f-41da-801d-1c87e32f88f5.lic
  5. Go to the following folder: C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\McNeel\Rhinoceros\<version>\License Manager\Licenses
  6. Delete the same license file there, if it exists.
  7. Right-click the Rhino shortcut and select Run as administrator.
  8. Enter and validate your Rhino license key.

macOS

Make sure you have a record of your license key before you start.

  1. Quit Rhino for Mac.
  2. Open Finder.
  3. Click Go → Go to Folder and enter the following folder: /Library/Application Support/McNeel/Rhinoceros/License Manager/Licenses
  4. Delete the license file in the Licenses folder.
  5. Start Rhino.
  6. Enter and validate your Rhino license key.
