Upgrading Your License

An upgrade license has to be validated on the same device your previous license was. Here's how, for each licensing method, and how to find a previous license key you've lost track of.

Upgrading Your License

When you buy an upgrade, Rhino pairs it with your previous license during validation. Validate the upgrade wherever the previous license is assigned: your Rhino Account, your LAN Zoo, or the single computer it’s locked to.

Cloud Zoo (Rhino Account) Upgrades

If your previous license is in a Rhino Account, personally or as part of a team, add the upgrade license there too.

  1. Go to the Rhino Accounts licenses page and log in.
  2. Add your upgrade license key.

This links the upgrade to your previous license and gives you one seat of either version, usable on any computer, one at a time.

Single-Computer Upgrades

If your previous license is locked to one computer, install the new version of Rhino on that same computer and validate the upgrade there.

  1. Install the new version of Rhino on the computer with your previous license.
  2. Start Rhino and enter your upgrade license key when prompted.

Both the new and previous versions of Rhino can then be used on that computer, at the same time if you like.

LAN Zoo Upgrades

See Upgrading from Previous Versions in the LAN Zoo guide — validating an upgrade license on a LAN Zoo server works differently than the Cloud Zoo or single-computer cases above.

Finding a Previous License Key

If you don’t have your previous license key or don’t remember where it was validated, use the license lookup tool and search by the email address you used at the time.

If you don’t have a previous license at all, you won’t be able to validate your upgrade. Contact McNeel Sales in your region.
