Shear
'ʃɪərɪŋ
A geometric transformation in which all the points in a plane, parallel to the transformation base plane, move together. How far the points move is directly proportional to their distance from the base plane. Turning a rectangle into a parallellogram, or a box into a parallellopiped is an example of shearing. In two dimensions, shearing is an area-preserving transformation. In three dimenions, shearing is a volume preserving transformation.
